Last night was my night to spend with Alice. She and I watched most of The Meg - which is a totally good bad movie. We split a box of Mac and Cheese and had some ice cream.
After she got in bed, Alice asked Alexa to play Pearl Jam. Alexa was kind enough to play the song, Yellow Ledbetter. When I walked into her room to say "good night" I heard the song and got into bed with Alice and snuggled her.
It was a good snuggle.
But it is was also a very sad experience for me because my mind kept going to something that occurred several years ago when we had Sirius XM in the Trailblazer. The four of us were driving through Delta on our way to a restaurant. The song was on and I was singing along. In the backseat the girls were going at each other and making a ruckus. From the passenger seat Jacci firmly told the girls to be quiet because "Dad really likes this song and he's singing along with it."
That is what I think of when I hear Yellow Ledbetter. But Jacci isn't going to ask the girls to be quiet for me any more, because the days of us listening to music as a family are gone.

We were a family once. . . and young.

My Pearl Jam T-Shirt Fell in the Mud
Eleanor played in the wettest game of her career yesterday. Because the referees must have assumed the game was cancelled due to inclement weather, I ended up getting to referee the game. While I didn't have any referee gear with me, I was wearing my new yellow Pearl Jam t-shirt, which made me look official.
When the game was over I stripped my shirt off and it fell in the mud.
The girls played a man down for the entire game but came from behind twice to win the game 5-4.

Recent Soccer Pictures
Eleanor began the spring season a couple weeks ago. Here are some images from her second weekend of games.
Eleanor got injured in this game and ended up sitting out most of the second half. Her injury persisted through the next weekend's game. I didn't get any pictures from that game but Eleanor and I did pose for this nice selfie.
I kept her out of practice this week and she's out of town for this weekend's game. Hopefully, that rest will allow her to return to full strength.

Eleanor, the History Buff
The girls and I spent a few days with my parents in Atlanta recently. On the way down we drove through North Carolina. We were stuck in traffic near Charlotte when Alice asked me why all the North Carolina license plates featured the phrase "First in Flight."
Before I could respond Eleanor answered the question: "That's because this is where Lewis and Clark flew their airplane."

Swagger
Eleanor is a gamer. Everyone who watches her play knows it. And she knows it, but in a good way. This is my favorite picture of Eleanor during a game. She's a beast.
I love this picture because of Eleanor's swagger. Her confidence gives me confidence.

Pretty Close to Best Friends
As Alice is almost 10 and Eleanor is 13 there are many times in which the two of them are upset with one another. For the most part, though, the two of them are best friends.
I took this picture yesterday in Costco. While Jacci and I walked around Eleanor chauffeured her sister up and down the aisles.
Jacci took this picture about a month ago while the girls were in Leesburg.
